My hosting company runs redhat with debian running underneath it. Don't ask me how the hell they did that, but it works nice! Smile

My old PC is running windows and Debian (recently installed). I'll probably delete windows later, but for now they are working okay together, go figure.

I started my first site on a Windows server (with a terrible web host - don't even get me started on that!). Started learning ASP (thought that was great), then started finding out about all the cool stuff I could do on a Linux server that's difficult to do on a Windows server, or at least doesn't seem to work as well. (Is mod rewrite even possible on Windows?).

I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever used Chilisoft and what you think of it.

Chillisoft is ok if you know asp and want to write a quick script to do anything - but if you want to run any proper asp, its no good at all, it misses out some important functions. You need a windows server to run asp properly.

URL Rewriting can be done on windows, but you need a third-party ISAPI filter (theres quite a few around)

So there are some ASP commands that won't work on a Chilisoft server? Can you give an example? I'm just curious.

I toyed with the idea of moving my Windows site to a host that used a Chilisoft server, but couldn't even find anyone that used it. Seems like if they're that hard to find, I would be hard pressed to find any sort of rating on the hosting company either, so I abandoned that idea.

Well the one time I used it (which was a while ago, its possible its changed since Sun took over) things like Server.Execute, the Execute() function and basically anything that was added in ASP 3. Most of the scripts I tried on it didn't work "out of the box".

Personally I'd stick with IIS, but then I'm biased Wink

I'd stick totally with *nix if I could use ASP there. Wink
