Has anyone used CafePress extensively? We have shirts made for different theater productions at my college, and have always used one of the local screen printing shops. But the concept of CafePress has always intrigued me, and I'm wondering if I should give them a shot for our next batch.

For those that don't know, here's a bit about what they do: "companies, as well as individuals and groups, can sell a wide variety of merchandise profitably without the typical hassles and overhead of doing business online. CafePress.com manages every aspect of doing business online, including online storefront development and management, product manufacturing and sourcing, fulfillment, and customer service."

I use them. http://www.karateforums.com/cafeshop.php

Haven't sold more than 1 item, but I have bought some myself and they are of decent quality, not great.

I find there shirts to fade after just a few washes. But, I think they have added some new instructions on how to keep the color in them longer. We will be offering some t-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, and maybe even a Devloper Cube lunchkit soon. Well maybe not the lunchkit (CafePress has those cool looking silver/retro lunchkits).

We use them for our club website and have sold several different items. So far the clothes (Hoodies, T's, Sweat shirts, thongs) have all fared very well. Some have also gotten their mugs which were really nicely done as well. They've done a good job for us and would recommend them to anyone.

Anyone know anything about the cafepress publishing quality? Do the books look good, paper of decent quality etc?

Not to poo-poo on the topic but I'm not a fan of cafepress at all.

I mean it's a nice front end but ridiculously overpriced for your clients. Something like $14 or $15 they charge per T shirt? And anything over that is your profit? Kind of a rip off...you can make your own store via paypal for crap's sake and spend $300 tops buying a short run of T shirts for about $4 a piece. Your customers will be more apt to buy/donate something for $10 plus shipping rather than $20 including shipping.

Also...I bought a phpbb t shirt and was really disappointed in the quality. It's not even a silkscreen for all that money...it's an iron on transfer that 1) looks shitty on black and 2) yellows on white. The t shirt was cheaper quality, not a 50/50 mix or anything.

Definitely turned me off from cafepress fo' good.

Thanks for the knowledge Kate. I've never used it, and haven't had any experience with them, only have heard. I'm debating whether to use it or not. I'd need more opinions before I do.. =-\
