I'm just wondering what everyone considers to be an acceptable amount of downtime in a one month period. How long would you wait before packing up and leaving that host, and what would you want in return from the host for an extended period of downtime? _________________ GamingMMO.com |

Longer than a few hours and I'm ready to leave. I've gone through a few hosts now and so far iFroggy as been the best. I've had a couple of downtimes but nothing major. With another host I was with I had downtimes of days sometimes. After getting my money back i went to Ifroggy.
This is unless downtime is scheduled and during off peak hours (AM times). If that's the case then usually I don't mind at all as they are working to improve their services and are doing it at an hour which there aren't many people surfing around. |

As a side note to my above question, what happens if you lose information becuase of their downtime and they do not have backups to supply? What, if anything, could be done to persuade you to stay with that company through the problems? _________________ GamingMMO.com |

| With the last guys I was with, I did lose info.. Everything in fact. I wouldn't have stayed with them if they gave me years free. To me it's not worth the risk of losing my data. Since most of what I had was phpbb stuff, once it was gone, it was gone. |

I think once a month is enough downtime for me to think about changing hosts. If they went down and lost my info I'd certainly consider moving hosts. A backup system is a must. With that said, you should always backup your site - including databases - yourself. _________________ Keith McLaughlin - DeveloperCube Moderator

Let's say, hypothetically (-cough-), your host promises 99% uptime and they have currently delievered 40% uptime, is it reasonable to ask for a refund of all the money spent thus far and pack it up to move to another host? _________________ GamingMMO.com |

Thanks Paul, that's something I completely forgot about (I read it over when I signed up but can't remember what it says now). _________________ GamingMMO.com |
